Welcome to the Ruskin Literary and Debating Society!

A Brief Introduction

The Ruskin Literary and Debating Society was established in Toronto, Ontario on February 17, 1900 and is Canada's oldest private debating society.

The objects of the Society are both the improvement of its members in the area of public speaking and the study of literary, social, political and economic questions.

Perhaps it is because the Society has remained true to its objects throughout its history that more than 100 years after its founding, it is alive and well. Over the years, clergymen, engineers, academics, business people and others have come and built this great Society.

Today, Ruskin consists of men and women of all ages and many ethnic backgrounds. If you are interested in developing your ability at public speaking and want to exercise your mind in a non-academic atmosphere, you might consider joining us.
